Explosives found at West Bengal railway station

Train services on the Adra-Purulia section of the South Eastern Railway were immediately stopped after the discovery of the explosives.

A plot to blow up the railway station in Purulia district of West Bengal by suspected Maoists was foiled with the seizure of high-intensity explosives,with train services being suspended immediately.

The sack,which had wires protruding from it,was packed with 20 gelatine sticks,18 powergels and a huge quantity of bomb splinters and was detected by an RPF personnel on patrol last night,police said.

A Maoist poster was found in the bag which read “Withdraw joint forces from Junglemahal” and “Stop atrocities on innocent villagers”,the police said.

Train services on the Adra-Purulia section of the South Eastern Railway were immediately stopped after the discovery of the explosives.

The train services in the section resumed this morning,but were stopped again after arrival of the Bomb Squad after 11 hours from Midnapore which defused the explosives in a jungle,about five km away from Purulia railway station,the police said.

The police suspect that the Maoists plotted to blow up the railway station with the explosives and security at the station has been stepped up.
