Six employees of an Indore-based private firm were abducted by dacoits from a government irrigation site in the district on Sunday evening,police said here on Monday.
A gang of eight dacoits,including a woman member,abducted the employees from government’s Kanera Irrigation Project site in Kachhpura village,50 kms from here,in Chambal region,they said.
The villagers near the site put up an armed confrontation by opening fire from their licensed arms for about 30 minutes to prevent the dacoits from fleeing when they got news of the abduction,but they managed to escape with their captives and rushed towards neighbouring Uttar Pradesh,they said.
The abducted have been identified as the site engineer of the company Sharad Jhanwar (32),mechanic Dilip Ojha (35),gunman Santosh Pachouri,driver Salim,Suresh Maheshwari of Bhind and Abhimanyu Tripathi of Gorakhapur,they said.

Authorities said that the dacoits did not give reason for the abduction nor made any ransom demand.
Police teams from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were rushed to the jungles in search of the dacoits,they said adding that the entire area has been cordoned off.
