CPI on Friday welcomed the Union government’s approval for creation of Telangana but said there were “genuine apprehensions” among the agitating people of the Seemandhra region which needed to be addressed urgently.

It also urged the people of the Seemandhra region to withdraw their agitation and asked the government to take steps to allay their apprehensions over issues like employment and river water sharing.

“This is a long pending and just demand of the Telangana people. The decision of the Cabinet to form Telangana consisting of 10 districts including Hyderabad is in the right direction,” the party Central Secretariat said here.

In a statement,it said the carving of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh would “certainly create some serious problems which are to be faced and solved.”

“Behind the massive agitation of Seemandhra people, there are genuine apprehensions about the future employment prospects, division of river waters, future capital etc. which needs to be answered by the Union Government,” it said, adding that a sense of confidence should be created among them.

Urging the Telugu speaking people to maintain brotherhood and solidarity,it said the people of the Seemandhra region “should reconcile to the realities and withdraw the 65-day long agitation which brought big loss and affected livelihood of the poorer sections of the society.”

The CPI also said the decision to have Hyderabad as the joint capital for ten years was the “only solution in the present situation.”
