A BSF jawan was killed and three others injured when naxals detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Latehar district of Jharkhand.
The BSF personnel were returning to the district headquarters at Latehar,125 kms from Ranchi,with electronic voting machines when the incident took place last evening,para-military officers said in New Delhi on Friday.
The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical and he has been airlifted to Ranchi for treatment,they said,adding that the other two para-military personnel had received minor injuries.
With the killing of the BSF jawan,the toll in the naxalite mayhem in the first phase of polling in the Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand,Chhattisgarh and Bihar yesterday has risen to 19,which included five poll officials and 12 security force personnel.
