Amid protests and boycotts,J-K legislature session begins

'Discrimination in terms of the constitution of the new Municipal Wards and local body committees'.

Amid protests and subsequent boycott by BJP and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP),the state Assembly session began here today with an address by Governor N N Vohra.

As the Governor was about to begin his address to the state Legislature,BJP MLAs,led by Jugal Kishore resorted to anti-government sloganeering.

They told the Governor that there was grave discrimination with Jammu region in terms of the constitution of the new Municipal Wards and local body committees.

They demanded resignations of the Ministers of Congress over the discrimination with Jammu. As the Governor ignored their speeches and started his address,they walked out of the central hall amid sloganeering and protests and boycotted the

Governor’s address.

“We want the resignation of the ministers of Congress for discrimination with Jammu region for new local body committees and wards,which were carved out more in Kashmir than in Jammu”,BJP Legislative Party leader Jugal Kishore told reporters here.

He said that part MLAS have boycotted Governor’s address in protest against the discrimination with the region on all fronts. “We will not tolerate this discrimination at all and will fight against it”,he said.

Led by the JKNPP Chairman,Prof Bhim Singh,over 200 activists today marched to towards Jammu and Kashmir Assembly amid anti-government slogans to ghero the house in support of their demand for dismissal of Omar Abdullah government.

A heavy police contingent,which had barricaded the road towards Assembly and Civil Secretariat,did not allow them to move to house at Shalimar Chowk.

Later,the JKNPP activists clashed with Police and Singh along with Party General Secretary Anita Thakur,former MLA Faqir Nath and scores of activists were detained and the situation defused.

JKNPP MLAs Harsh Dev Singh,Balwant Mankotia and Yashpal Kundal sat on a dharna in fornt of the central hall of the Assembly and raised anti-government slogans over its demand of sacking the Omar government for failure on all fronts.

They also boycotted the joint address of the Governor.

“There is no achievement of the government at the ground level. The only achievement of the Government on the ground is the high level of corruption from top to bottom”,JKNPP Legislature Party leader Harsh Dev Singh told reporters

outside the Assembly.

“People are not happy with this government. Employees are not happy with this government. Farmers are not happy with the government”,Singh said adding “there is no governance seen on the ground”.

“The government should be dismissed so that people get relief from the high degree of corruption in which several ministers have serious allegations”,Singh said.

Unlike in the past budget session for past three years,opposition PDP did not resorted to protests or boycotts of the house.

PDP in past three session have been instrumental in disrupting the Assembly over several issues including Human Right violations and custodial killings.

“This is first government in whole of the country,where you have right from Chief Minister and his senior colleagues and others –almost all of them charged from Murder,Crime,Corruption,nepotism and favouritism.”,Mehbooba Mufti told

reporters here.

She further said government has moral authority to govern even they are not governing at all.
