Air traffic to and fro Kashmir Valley resumed today after remaining suspended for two days as airlines operated 20 flights in view of large number of stranded persons following heavy snowfall over the weekend.
Official sources said seven additional flights flew into Srinagar International Airport today besides the 13 scheduled flights as the weather improved in the Valley,allowing resumption of flight operations.
Air India operated three additional flights,Jet Airways two additional flights while Indigo and Kingfisher operated one additional flight each,the sources said.
They said more than 3500 passengers travelled into or out of the Valley on today’s flights which were packed to capacity.
Air traffic was suspended on Sunday and Monday due to poor visibility and accummulation of snow on the runaway.
The Valley had remained cut off from rest of the country since Sunday as the arterial Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has also been closed Sunday morning.
Thousands of people,including tourists in Kashmir,have been stranded on either side of the Pir Panjal range following snapping of transportation links on Sunday.
