Indian Railways, Kamakhya Junction railway station:Indian Railways (IR) has upgraded the infrastructure at Assam’s Kamakhya Junction for the upkeep of upcoming Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express train services. The rail projects in the state comes under the administrative control of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.

As part of the upgradation work at Kamakhya railway station, the zonal railway has completed electrification of both pit lines, thus enhancing operational capabilities at the station.
“This significant infrastructure upgrade marks a major milestone in enhancing maintenance capabilities and preparing the station for the efficient handling and upkeep of upcoming Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat train services,” Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), NFR said in a statement.

To further strengthen maintenance capabilities, NFR has also constructed eight pedestals to support Pantograph (Panto) and Roof Mounted Package Unit (RMPU) maintenance activities required for Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat train sets. These installations will ensure safer, faster and more efficient periodic servicing of the advanced rolling stock.
“Aligned with Indian Railways’ ambitious Net-Zero mission to achieve a carbon-neutral network by 2030, this progress brings NFR closer to deploying upgraded, state-of-the-art trains into regular operations and delivering enhanced, sustainable rail services to passengers across the region,” the CPRO said.
Railway projects in BTAD region of Assam
Meanwhile, NFR has also undertaken a series of transformative railway development projects to strengthen connectivity, infrastructure and economic growth in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) of Assam.
A key project among them is the proposed Wagon Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Basbari in Kokrajhar district.
NFR is also spearheading the Kokrajhar–Gelephu New Railway Line Project. It is a 69 km Indo–Bhutan cross-border connectivity initiative, declared a Special Railway Project by the Government of India.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), NFR has initiated redevelopment works at important BTAD stations including Kokrajhar, Gossaigaon Hat, Fakiragram, Udalguri, Tangla and Majbat.
Apart from these, the important trains such as the Vande Bharat Express and Rajdhani Express regularly halt at Kokrajhar station.
