Railway Projects in Kerala: Indian Railways (IR) is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for developing over 750 km of new railway lines in Kerala. The initiative aims to improve train operations and increase service frequency while strengthening the state’s rail infrastructure and supporting regional economic growth.

In the FY 2025–26, the national transporter allocated a budgetary outlay of Rs 3,042 crore for Kerala. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on December 3, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated: “In last three years (i.e. 2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-25 and current Financial Year i.e. 2025-26), total 9 Nos. of Surveys (3 New Line and 6 Doubling) falling fully/partly in the State of Kerala having a total length of 1,124 Km have been sanctioned and survey work has been taken up.”

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on December 5, Vaishnaw said that a DPR is being prepared for several rail line projects in Kerala. These include:

“Railway had deposited Rs 1,975 crore for land acquisition to Government of Kerala. Support of the Government of Kerala is needed to expedite the land acquisition,” the Union Minister said.
