Daring the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government to place the list of names of account holders procured by the Swiss authorities in the floor of the house, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi questioned BJP leader’s inaction over their prepoll promise. He said the Congress will offer 100 per cent support to the NDA government, if it genuinely fights against blackmoney and corruption, but demonetisation was not the way forward. “If BJP government takes small or big steps against corruption, Congress party will offer cent per cent support to the NDA government. But demonitisation drama is not against corruption or blackmoney… The decision of notebandi is an assault against 99 per cent honest citizens in the country. It’s an attack against cash economy and poor people,” he said.
The Congress Vice-President said that then BJP leader Modi did not speak of blackmoney during election rally. “He said that foreign bank accounts have them and assured to personally retrieve them and deposit in Rs. 15 lakh in everyones account, but neither any one has received any deposit in their account not a single blackmoney hoarder been arrested…Why didn’t PM Modi did not reveal the name of list of Swiss Bank account holder’s. I demand he place it before the floor of the house…” he demanded to know.
Rahul Gandhi further alleged that while Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya have not been extradited and their default loans have been declared as NPA’s, poor people have been repeatedly assaulted since the NDA government came to power. “One per cent of the super-rich people have taken Rs. 8 lakhs crore have borrowed and their defunct loans are declared NPA’s, but when a farmer fails to repay you call him fraud and seize his property…In (dai saal) one lakh 10 thousands crore rupees have been declared NPA under the care of Central government… Rs. 1200 crore of Vijay Mallya alone,” he said.
Terming that the corrupt and blackmoney hoarder’s as ‘Chor’, he said that they were smart enough to convert their ill-gotten wealth into other forms of assets beforehand. “All cash money is not blackmoney and all blackmoney is not cash…Only 6 per cent of blackmoney is in the form of cash, (choranve) per cent blackmoney is in other forms like land, deposit in Swiss bank, gold and real-estate,” he estimated.
Dubbing the demonetisation drive as an attack on the poor, the Congress leader said the opposition has not been allowed to speak at the ongoing Parliament session for a month on demonetisation. “Ninety- nine percent of the people are honest. But the one percent or those from 50 families… the super rich who travel internationally with PM Modi and the conducted business deal have benefited from it. The ‘surgical strike on blackmoney’ is nothing but a new drama or marketing scheme as people have started questioning the PM on his non-implementation of poll promise,” he said.
In fact, he alleged that demonetiaation was a scheme by PM Modi to help his super rich friends to avail cash at their disposal, while keeping the bank from going defunct due to NPA of the economic elite. “If demonetisation was properly implemented, Rs. 2000 and other currencies properly supplied to the banks, ordinary people would have withdrawn it. But, by starving them from hard cash(recalibration), surplus funds are lying in the banks which the super rich friends of PM Modi are availaing (in the form of advances),” he alleged.
“On November 8, PM Modi dropped a firebomb on the poor by announcing that ‘the hard earned money in your (poor people) pocket is nothing but a paper…Neither the Finance Minister was informed about it nor consulted the poor people, about his future” he said.
Due to demonetisation, Rahul Gandhi listed Goa fishing and tourism industry – Pune automobile industry effected – Mirzapur carpet industry were dead, Punjab cycle and sports industry killed, Kanpur leather industry destroyed, “But PM laughed at all these developments,” he said.
Rahul suggested that PM Modi did not have a clear roadmap on undertaking demonetisation drive, as he jumped from one agenda to the other each time. “First he announced it was to retrieve blackmoney, then he said that it was to counter terrorism – but when deceased terrorist were caught with blackmoney Pm said that it was to tackle counterfeit currency – which again by PM’s admission accounted for 2 paisa for every Rs. 100 and now he says it is to promote cashless economy,” he said
While making an assertion that Congress supported a cashless economy, he said it would not promote the PM Modi-led model. “Under the present scheme, the facilitator (private companies) will charge 5-6 percent ‘commission’ on each transaction, which never existed (commission) in cash transaction,” he argued.
