Quad Moonshot initiative: India pledges $7.5mn to combat cervical cancer

With the Quad deciding to tackle cervical cancer, the PM said that India has developed its own vaccine against the HPV. To strengthen fight against cervical cancer, India has pledged a grant of $7.5 million for testing, screening, and diagnosis of the disease in the Indo-Pacific region.
Addressing the Cancer Moonshot event hosted by US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of Quad Summit, PM Narendra Modi said the initiative would go a long way in providing affordable, accessible and quality health care to people in Indo-Pacific countries.
With the Quad deciding to tackle cervical cancer, the PM said that India has developed its own vaccine against the HPV.
The Serum Institute of India, in partnership with Gavi, will support procurement of up to 40 million doses of the HPV vaccine for distribution across the Indo-Pacific region. India will also provide technical support for use of its National Non-Communicable Disease Portal, which tracks long-term data on cancer screening and care.
