The office of the Chief Electoral officer (CEO) Punjab has asked for a weekly progress report on the prevailing law and order situation in the state with regard to some directions already given to the state police.
Speaking to The Indian Express, VK Singh, CEO Punjab, said similar orders had also been issued to departments such as excise and narcotics control. When asked if the Election Commission had taken cognizance of the law and order situation after the Nabha jailbreak, V K Singh said these orders were already in place before the jailbreak but now they were being “followed up with more strictness.”

It is learnt that the Punjab police headquarters has responded to some of the queries raised by the EC and said that steps were being taken to ensure that Intelligence relating to bad characters and proclaimed offenders was generated in order to nab such elements.
In another development, the Deputy Election Commissioner, Sandeep, Saxena will arrive in Chandigarh tomorrow on a two-day visit to review preparations for the Assembly polls early next year. He is scheduled to visit Bathinda, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts and meet district officials as well as local representatives of political parties.
