As Pakistan Tuesday released an official song dedicated to Kartarpur Corridor opening, the Indian side too came up with a musical ode to Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary and three songs with contributions from veterans like poet Dr Surjit Patar, Sufi maestro Puran Chand Wadali and three Punjab politicians have been released.

A two-minute song titled ‘Guru Wala Langah, Fakir Wala Langah’, written by Congress’ Amritsar West MLA Dr Raj Kumar Verka and featuring legendary Sufi maestro Puran Chand Wadali was released by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Interestingly, it also features performance by Cabinet ministers Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi.

The lyrics of the song go like ‘Ajj aasan pooriyan hoiyaan ne, khulley darshan didar diyan, taras diyan ehna akhiyaan diyan, pyaasa pooriyan hoiyaan.’ (Today our wish has been fulfilled to see Guru’s home…)

Verka, speaking to The Indian Express, said, “The song is a part of bigger documentary I am making on Kartarpur Corridor. The song has been released ahead of Corridor’s inauguration.”

“I have written this song for government’s Dera Baba Nanak Utsav Committee, coordinating celebrations at Dera Baba Nanak. It was released on YouTube on Tuesday. I was assigned this almost a month back,” Patar told The Indian Express.

The lyrics go like, ‘Mere tarasdey naina nu nazar labhi, tere daran nu jaandi jadd dagar labbi.. Nanak Shah Fakir de dar nu, sohney murshad peer dey dar nu.. rehmat di tasveer de dar nu.. aah jaanda hai langah..’ (My eyes got a vision, when I found a way towards your home…a way towards Nanak Shah Fakir’s door…this is the way that leads towards the Guru).

A book ‘Sohney Da Birkh’ (The Golden Tree), based on life and teachings of Nanak and compiled and edited by Patar was also released Tuesday by Punjab CM.

Singers, led by Harshdeep Kaur, and music composers from Hindi film industry have also paid a tribute to Nanak with a Shabad song ‘Satguru Nanak Aaye Ne’. The Punjab CM released the song in which singers Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Jaspinder Narula, Shekhar Ravjiani, Richa Sharma, Salim Merchant, Neeti Mohan, Sukhshinder Shinda have given their voice apart from comedian and actor Kapil Sharma. The lyrics, composed by Harshdeep Kaur, go like, ‘Nanak Aaya, Nanak Aaya..Kal Taran Guru Nanak aaya.. chalo chal rall mil darshan kariye Satguru Nanak Aaye ne…’

The song has already garnered over 11 lakh views on YouTube.
