SAD-BJP will split before Lok Sabha elections: Partap Singh Bajwa

Ruling alliance's Goa chintan shivar was an attempt by Akalis to appease BJP: Congress

Stating that the ruling alliance’s Goa chintan shivar was an attempt by the Akalis to appease the BJP,which “has become a non-entity in the government”,state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday said the SAD-BJP combine will part ways much before the Lok Sabha elections.

“After the imposition of property tax,the BJP has already lost its vote bank in the state’s urban areas and hence this exercise is just to appease them and to promote a casino culture,” Bajwa, who was in Ludhiana, said.

He also accused the Punjab government of lacking vision and commitment to drive the state out of a “clogged situation” on the development front, saying that the SAD-BJP regime is diverting attention from real issues by asking for more financial autonomy.

“The ruling alliance is diverting the attention from real issues by making frivolous statements on asking more financial autonomy to states,” Bajwa added.

Stating that the industry was shifting to other places due to lack of an investor friendly policy in the state,Bajwa said that SAD never opposed economic packages given to hill states when the NDA was in power at the Centre. He added that he would meet Prime Minister along with party MPs to seek Rs 5,000 crores package for crop diversification for Punjab.

On a possible alliance between the Congress and secular forces in the state,Bajwa said: “Any alliance will happen only after a review at the high-command level and it will be good if secular forces can join hands together.”

He also added that based on the CAG reports, which show that funds worth Rs 1,620 crore have been diverted by the state, the Congress will approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the issue. The Congress president slammed the proposed power tariff hike.””The power corporation is passing on losses to consumers year after year and I am not surprised that the claims of the Deputy CM to make Punjab power surplus in 3 years have fallen flat. He has been unable to show any results even after six years,” Bajwa said.

Meanwhile,Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said the SAD-BJP government should do “chintan” on why despite 400 per cent rise in their income, they have been compelled to enhance the rates of health services besides imposing fee on poor children.

In a statement issued Monday,Jakhar said instead of relishing five-star facilities in Goa,the Punjab government should publicly ‘display’ the facts and expenditures, which led to increase of Rs 38,109 crore in state’s debt and Rs 69,270 crore on public sector in last six years despite state’s income jumping manifold as claimed by SAD-BJP leadership in their on-going ‘chintan shivir’ at Goa.
