Congress infighting: Another signature campaign on? Rahul Gandhi aides deny move

Sources said Rahul’s loyalists are trying again to move a resolution in the Congress Legislative Party (CLP).

In a renewed effort to get Congressmen accept a resolution that they do not endorse the idea of creating a new party, Rahul Gandhi loyalists in the party are reportedly attempting at another effort to win over at least 30 members to sign a new resolution.

Earlier, the Indian Youth Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Fartehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra had, reportedly, supported Batala MLA Ashwini Sekhri’s efforts to get support from partymen to sign a resolution saying that they were united under the leadership of the high command. That exercise, however, failed.

Sources said Rahul’s loyalists are trying again to move a resolution in the Congress Legislative Party (CLP). “Nagra and Bharat Bhushan Ashu met former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday in a attempt to convince her to press upon her camp’s MLAs to sign the resolution”, said a source.

Several MLAs are, reportedly, in touch with former Finance Minister, Lal Singh and are urging upon him to sign the resolution. However, Nagra, when contacted, denied any attempt. Raja Warring said he was not a part of any such exercise.

According to sources, the signature campaign has already garnered the support of 15 MLAs.

“If they are able to get signatures of 30 MLAs, this would mean Amarinder will end up having only 13 of them out of a house of 43. They are trying to get as many people on board as soon as possible before Amarinder comes back from the UK,” said a senior party leader.
