Taking “full responsibility” for the electoral loss in Assam, the state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced on Friday that he would resign if Congress will get less than six seats.

“I take full responsibility. I have to take responsibility. If I get less than six, I will resign. This is a part of democracy but I was not expecting this result,” said Gogoi.

BJP is leading in eight of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, while the ruling Congress is ahead in two seats.

Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar is trailing by over 1.19 lakh votes from Dibrugarh, Union Minister Ranee Narah is trailing by 1.32 lakh votes in Lakhimpur, former Union Minister B K Handique is trailing by about 62,000 votes in Jorhat and Gogoi’s son Gaurav is trailing by 9,800 votes in Kolibar.
