ACCUSING SP chief Mulayam Singh of misleading Muslims for electoral gains, Rashtriya Ulama Council (RUC) president Maulana Aamir Rashadi Madani Saturday announced his candidature against Mulayam in Azamgarh.

“It was said that Mulayam is a messiah for Muslims. Over the years, Muslims didn’t just give Mulayam their vote, but also reposed their trust in him. But he has only fooled them for political opportunism and is not their true well-wisher,” Rashadi told reporters here. “Hence, as per our parliamentary board’s decision, I will be contesting against Mulayam in Azamgarh,” Madani said.

“The reason we are contesting against Mulayam is that whenever his government came to power, Muslims were only exploited. And since RUC came into existence from Azamgarh and since he (Mulayam) has challenged us by coming to Azamgarh, we have accepted the challenge after due consideration,” Madani said, adding that “history will never forgive the SP government for what it has done in Uttar Pradesh.”

Flanked by RUC general secretary Maulana Tahir Madani and RUC vice-president Maulana Nizamuddin Islahi, Madani summed up Mulayam thus: “Teri chahat me ae Mulayam, dar badar ho gaye, apni hasti se he bekhabar ho gaye; tum sanwar kar sanam Saifai ho gaye, hum ujad kar Muzaffarnagar ho gaye.”

“This is not a Hindu-Muslim contest but rather a fight against injustices and atrocities,” Madani said, adding that “Mulayam is worse than Modi”. “In Gujarat, only one riot took place, while in UP under SP, 143 riots have taken place in two years,” Madani said.
