Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most searched politician of India on internet in the year 2014, as per Yahoo India’s review report. While Modi led “High and Mighty Political Top 10”, his trusted aides Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley also feature on the list, which includes Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister: This man clearly tops the list as he changed the political landscape in 2014. One of the most popular leaders in the Indian political history, Modi became the Prime Minister of India after BJP’s magnificent victory in the general elections this year. He is second most followed political leader in Twitter after US President Barack Obama.
Amit Shah, BJP President: His contribution in BJP’s landslide victory in 2014 polls left many political analysts surprised. A close associate of Narendra Modi, Shah was BJP’s star campaigner during the 2014 polls. He helped BJP won 78 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, an achievement that left catapulted him to the presidentship of the saffron party.
Arun Jaitley, Finance and I&B Minister: He might have lost the Lok Sabha election from Chandigarh, but the BJP ignored his poll fate and acknowledged his intellect and experience and appointed him the Minister of Finance besides giving two other portfolios of Corporate Information and Broadcasting in the cabinet.
Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Chief: One of the most controversial figures in the political circle in the year of change is placed fourth on our list. The man who caused embarrassment to the Narendra Modi government with his inflamatory speeches, has been vocal for his demand to declare India a hindu nation. Netizens were quite interested in reading his hate speeches.
Rajnath Singh, Home Minister: The old loyalist of the BJP was handed over the presidnetship of the party from Nitin Gadkari only to change its fate in the 2014 general elections. And he didn’t let his supporters down as people voted in huge number to choose BJP over others and gave it the clear mandate.
Manohar Parrikar, Defence Minister: His honesty and simplicity compelled the BJP government to free him from the responsibility as the Goa chief minister and inducted him in the cabinet to handle ministry of defence, the most sensitive portfolio.
Sonia Gandhi, Congress President: She is the seventh most searched political leader this year.
Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister: His decision to dump Shiv Sena and join BJP left Sena red faced. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Prabhu was since 1996 been repeatedly elected MP from Rajapur Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra as a member of the Shiv Sena (SS) political party. But he quit Shiv Sena and joined BJP after the deadlock between both the parties over government formation in Maharashtra. He was appointed the railway minister, a key portfolio in union cabinet.
Ram Madhav, BJP General Secretary: RSS leader and in charge of its media and public relations Ram Madhav was deputed by the Sangh to work in BJP after they formed government at the Centre. He was appointed the national secretary of the party. Madhav caught attention recently by saying BJP’s door is always open for separatists in Kashmir and they should knock the door of Indian PM than that of Pakistan for their issues.
Sharad Pawar, NCP Chief: From his keenness to contest for the BCCI president post to his party’s unconditional offer to the BJP for government formation in Maharashtra, Pawar was one of the favorites topics in the internet this year.
