Narendra Modi slams govt, says UPA’s glass filled with corruption

The Gujarat Chief Minister said the country is going through a total policy paralysis.

Targeting the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre,Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said UPA’s glass is filled with corruption.

“In the last nine years (five years of UPA-I and four of UPA-II),the (UPA’s) glass has been full with corruption. There is no space for trust or belief. Unfortunately, even the common man has to take something from the glass filled with corruption,” he said after the launch of Gujarat edition of Business Line here.

He said the country is going through a total policy paralysis because of the UPA’s poor governance.

“We have to accept that the nation is going through deep policy paralysis,” Modi said.

He also lashed out at the Union government for its ‘misuse’ of government institutions for settling scores.

“Unfortunately,I could not hear what you (Infosys Executive co-chairman Kris Gopalakrishnan) said…whether you praised Gujarat or not…but I will get to know in two days. Last week, when Infosys praised Gujarat,it got an Income-Tax notice of Rs 500 crore,” Modi said.

Gopalakrishnan, who is also Confederation of Indian Industries president, had heaped praise on Modi, describing him as ‘a global leader.

“Modi is a global leader who many wish to emulate. It is a privilege to share the dais with Modi, under whom the state has progressed in all aspects,” he had said earlier in the function.

Modi said social media has given common man more voice than before.

“Technology has impacted the print, electronic and social media immensely,” Modi said.

Taking potshots at the Congress leadership, the senior BJP leader said that there were two centres of power in the UPA government – Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh – and regretted that the incumbent government has failed to lead the country in the right direction due to a divided leadership.

Recalling the performance of the NDA government,Rudy claimed that it had left behind a surplus coffer and a robust economy, but the UPA government has not only failed to sustain the economy, industrial production has also declined to one per cent – the lowest in past 30 years,as a ‘policy paralysis’ has gripped the Manmohan Singh government.

There has been sharp increase in unemployment due to declining industrial production even as ever rising food inflation and price rise has hurt the masses,he said.

Charging the UPA government with brazenly using the CBI to keep allies together and force them to support it,Rudy said the Congress-led government will not succeed in its design and the government may go even earlier than being predicted in political circles.

BJP was ready for general elections or mid-term polls,he said and exuded confidence that it will be able to oust the UPA government from power.

On Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s projection as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate,Rudy said the party’s parliamentary board will take a call on it.

“Whatever formulation the BJP leadership decides to go with in the next general elections, will be made public in due course of time,” he said.
