For tribal leader Jual Oram, who took charge of the Ministry of Tribal affairs Tuesday, “winning the hearts of tribals” was top priority.
On the issue of mining in tribal areas, Oram said he was not against mining but if “tribals don’t benefit from it, then what’s the point”.
Oram said this government would work on the principle of “collective responsibility” and only after internal consensus, would any decisions be taken. “I am a tribal myself and I understand their grievances well,” he said.
Oram also stressed on an “inclusive development agenda”. “We have to ensure development by taking everyone along,” he added.
