As the Congress moves towards its worst defeat in the State elections, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Manikrao Thakre has announced his resignation. The leader addressed a press conference where he said, “I take complete responsibility for the defeat, sending my resignation to Sonia Gandhi.”
The fact that BJP might not get past 145 starts sinking in. Senior BJP leaders are already suggesting that the party might have to woo Sena to form government. BJP state chief Devendra Fadnavis said: “Sena is not our political opponent.”

However, Sena is playng hardball and its spokesperson Sanjay Raut said party chief Uddav Thackery “will decide on alliance with BJP”.
Meanwhile, NCP leader Praful Patel said his party was ready to give outside support to BJP.
Among the other former ministers, Jayant Patil (NCP) was leading in Islampur, Naseem Khan (Congress) was leading in Chandivali, Mumbai. Former Industries Minister Narayan Rane, expected to face a tough fight from the Shiv Sena’s Vaibhav Naik, was ahead.
Senior Congressman and former minister Harshvardhan Patil was trailing in Indapur. Among the major BJP leaders, Vinod Tawde was leading in Borivali (Mumbai), Pankaja Munde was leading in Parli.
Ramesh Bagwqe of the Congress was trailing in Pune Cantonment, in a shock for the Congress – this was a seat they were certain of winning. BJP’s Madhuri Misal was leading by over 4000 votes in Parvati against the NCP’s Subhash Jagtap, while BJP ‘s Yogesh Tilekar was leading in Hadapsar.

The state went for polling on October 15 for its 288 member assembly. Exit polls have predicted BJP as an emerging party in the state.
