The Kerala faction of the Janata Dal (United), an ally of the ruling Congress-led UDF, on Saturday said the new alliance of Janata Parivar required new political line.
After a meeting of state leaders, JD(U) state chief M P Veerendrakumar said they would consult with national leadership on whether to continue in the UDF. He said the changed political scenario called for a fresh look at everything, including political alliance. He expressed his displeasure with the Congress leadership.
The Congress did not give due consideration to the party. “If our party were with the LDF during the last assembly elections, that front would have retained power in Kerala,” he said. Veerendrakumar said the Congress should reveal its report about his defeat from Palakkad constituency during the last Lok Sabha elections. “Congress had forced me to contest from Palakkad and they worked for my defeat,” he claimed.
JD(U) has two legislators in the assembly. The party’s decision on whether to continue in the UDF is crucial for the Kerala government which is surviving on thin majority.
