The BJP in Bihar received a boost as a JD(U) legislator, learnt to be unhappy with his party leadership for the alliance with the RJD, joined the party Saturday.
JD(U) MLA Satish Kumar, who had defeated RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s wife and former state chief minister Rabri Devi from Raghopur constituency in the 2010 elections, joined the BJP at the party headquarters here. Kumar is learnt to be upset with the JD (U)’s decision to concede Raghopur seat to the RJD.
The BJP leadership believes a number of sitting MLAs from the JD(U) and leaders from the RJD could get upset with their parties as both sides have had to concede existing seats in the seat sharing deal. The JD(U), RJD, Congress combine, known as the grand alliance, has decided that while the first two would contest 100 seats each, the Congress would field its candidates in 40 constituencies.
“The BJP will have an advantage in 50-60 seats just because of this factor,” claimed a senior BJP leader. The JD(U), which was in alliance with the BJP in the 2010 polls, had contested from 141 seats and won 115. The RJD fielded its candidates from 168 seats but won only 22, while the Congress won only four of the 243 it contested.
