Janata Dal Secular moves no confidence against Siddaramaiah government

The 124 member strong Congress government said it was willing to debate the no confidence motion and the issue of farmer deaths but accused the opposition of politicizing the issue.

The 40 member opposition Janata Dal Secular party in Karnataka on Monday moved a no confidence motion against the ruling Siddaramaiah led Congress government in the state in the wake of suicides by sugarcane farmers over poor prices for their produce.

The no confidence motion was admitted by Speaker Kagodu Thimappa but a discussion on the subject was postponed in the light of the main opposition party the 44 member BJP demanding a discussion on the farmer deaths in the state ahead of a debate on the no confidence motion.

Opening the debate on farmer deaths the BJP leader of opposition Jagadish Shettar said that 50 farmers had committed suicide in the last three months with the state government paying little heed to the situation.
