After his observation on rising corruption in the government machinery put the Oommen Chandy-led Kerala govt in dock, senior Congress leader A K Antony on Monday said he had made only a general statement.
“My comments were not aimed at anyone or meant to weaken anyone. I have made a general statement only. My statements were distorted and I did not want to hurt anyone,’’ said Antony in Alappuzha.
Antony’s observation on corruption in government machinery had snowballed into a war cry against the leadership of Chandy. His rivals had seized it as an opportunity to open a debate on leadership change in the government.
“The issue of leadership change is not on party’s agenda. The Congress can retain power in the next elections if the party remains united,” said Antony.
