Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta today threatened to file a defamation case against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit if she does not say sorry for making “baseless” allegations against him.

Addressing a press conference yesterday,Dikshit alleged that NGO ‘Sampurna’,being run by Gupta’s wife Shobha Vijender was involved in various irregularities.

The chief minister said the NGO has managed to receive huge sums of money from MCD as well as Social Welfare department of Delhi government but nobody knows how it was spending the funds.

“I am not a member of the NGO. I have nothing to do with it. I have an independent identity. The allegations are totally baseless. I will send a letter to her asking her to tender an apology. If she does not, then I will file a defamation case,” Gupta said addressing a press conference.

Accusing Dikshit of not maintaining public decorum by levelling personal allegations,he said the Chief Minister was angry as the BJP has been relentlessly trying to ‘expose’ her ‘misdeeds’.

Gupta announced that BJP will soon publish a booklet on the bungling and scams which have taken place during the 13-year tenure of Dikshit.

“The policy of the Congress is to misuse power openly and indulge in corruption. They do not care about laws and the Constitution.

Speaking at the press conference,MCD Mayor Rajni Abbi said the NGO was doing “commendable work” in various fields and that is why along with several other NGOs,it has been given financial grants by the MCD.

“It has been doing commendable work and that is why even Delhi government has given it financial assistance,” she said.

Asked about MCD reversing an earlier decision of not giving financial grant to NGOs run by relatives of the councillors,Abbi said it was done as there was no provisions of such restrictions in the MCD Act.

“Moreover, the Solicitor General had also opined that there was nothing wrong in extending such financial assistance to NGOs run by relatives of councillors,” said Abbi. Gupta is also a MCD councillor.

Gupta’s wife Shobha Vijender, who runs the NGO,has rejected the allegations and said her entire team was deeply “hurt by the baseless charges levelled by Dikshit.
