Congress asked DMRC to adhere to safety guidelines while constructing Metro in the capital on Tuesday.
The safety guidelines should not be compromised for the sake of meeting deadline in the Metro construction work,Congress MP Mahabal Mishra said.
Informing the Lok Sabha,Mishra said the recent accident at the Delhi Metro site in south Delhi that claimed six lives was caused by “serious deficiency” in design and inadequate concrete strength.
Expressing his concern over the spate of mishaps in Metro,Mishra advocated a complete check of all pillars of the Metro. “There should be proper examination of the structure to prevent mishaps in future.”
A high-level inquiry committee was constituted by the DMRC to investigate the incident.
The main findings of the committee regarding the causes of the accident are serious deficiency in the design of the cantilever arm and the concrete not having the adequate strength.
Saugata Ray,Minister of State for Urban Development, said action has been taken against concerned officials. The DMRC has suspended two Deputy Chief Engineers, issued a major penalty charge sheet against Chief Engineer (Design),demobilised and replaced the expatriate consultant of General Consultants who was directly responsible for ensuring quality of work.
