Umar Ali Khan,the son-in-law of Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari,figures in the Samajwadi Party list of seven candidates for legislative council and a lone Rajya Sabha Sabha seat. The list,announced on Thursday,includes Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Revenue Minister Ambika Choudhary.
Khan had lost in the last Assembly elections from Behat in Saharanpur district. The seat was won by the BSP candidate,with the Congress coming second.
Bukhari had declared support to Mulayam Singh before the Assembly elections.
Party national secretary Madhu Gupta also figures in the list as an MLC candidate. The SP also has rewarded its state spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary.
Former MLC Vijay Yadav of Ghazipur,whose father Ramkaran Yadav also a former MLC was close to Mulayam Singh Yadav,has also been named in the list. Naresh Uttam is the only candidate who has been renominated by the party.
The SP has five MLCs in the batch of 13 MLCs retiring on May 5.
For the lone Rajya Sabha seat,the party has named its youth leader Arvind Kumar Singh. His name had figured as a probable in the RS polls last month but it was changed to accomodate Jaya Bachchan.
