BJP moved the EC Thursday accusing West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee of “intimidating” potential voters for the saffron party in the Darjeeling LS constituency by making veiled threats to them during her public rallies.

Citing reports on remarks made by the TMC chief during an election rally on April 13 in Siliguri, the BJP petition has charged Banerjee with threatening Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, a BJP ally, and intimidating Marwari and Hindi speaking communities.

“The threats given and intimidatory tone do not behave the stature of a CM and the chief of a major political party such as TMC. We request the Hon’ble Election Commission to take note of the tone and content of the speeches and proceed against Ms Mamata Banerjee for violation of the model code of content,” R Ramakrishna, member of BJP’s election cell, said in his plea.
