The BJP Monday started seat-sharing talks with three regional parties in a bid to form an anti-BJD alliance in Orissa.
The saffron party’s likely partners in the state include Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s bete noire Pyari Mohan Mohapatra’s Odisha Jana Morcha and former Congressman Soumya Ranjan Patnaik’s Ama Odisha.
Though the state BJP leaders had initially rebuffed Mohapatra’s offer for a “grand” alliance last week, serious discussions started Monday after Arun Jaitley held closed door one-on-one meetings with some party leaders at a city hotel. Among them were formerBJP MP Kharavela Swain, who had floated Utkal Bharat after losing in the 2009 polls.
Former Union minister Braja Kishore Tripathy, who floated Samata Kranti Dal, is also scheduled to meet the senior BJP leader for a tie-up.
