The RSS-backed Muslim Rashtriya Manch will soon start sending workers from across the country to Bihar, where they hope to wean Muslims away from the grand alliance and towards the BJP and its alliance partners, the LJP, the RLSP and the HAM(S).
MRM workers will hold lunch, dinner and tea parties for groups of 30 to 50 guests in Muslim-dominated constituencies. Local units of the MRM will organise these programmes in coordination with clerics and other influential people of the community. RSS senior functionary Indresh Kumar is the MRM patron.
“MRM workers will neither carry the BJP flag nor appeal to Muslims to vote for the BJP,” said Mohammad Afzal, MRM national convener. “But we will expose the JD(U), the RJD and the Congress and tell Muslim voters these parties did nothing for the community over the decades, that they are responsible for backwardness of Muslims in Bihar.”
If voters do ask which party they should vote for, MRM workers will suggest “NDA constituents”. “We will urge Muslim voters to ensure the same parties are in government in the state and the Centre so that they can get the benefits of central schemes,” Afzal said.
He said the MRM will tell Muslims the JD(U) and RJD have joined hands to exploit the votes of Muslims without being concerned about their uplift, and that Nitish Kumar never worked on implementing the Sachar Committee recommendations either.
The MRM plans to campaign extensively in Seemanchal, where the AIMIM of Asaduddin Owaisi will contest 24 seats. “We have studied how Owaisi works. We will tell Muslims in Bihar that Owaisi has only paid supporters in Hyderabad and he plays with the sentiments of Muslims with his hardline statements,” an MRM leader said.
