Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition BNP chief Khaleda Zia congratulated BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday on securing a thumping mandate in the Lok Sabha polls.

They are first international leader to congratulate Modi.

Bangladesh Premier’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told reporters in Dhaka that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on securing a majority in the Lok Sabha polls.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia also congratulated Modi.

“She (Zia) has sent a message of greetings (to Modi) through the Indian high commission in Dhaka,” said BNP vice chairman and party spokesman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury.

Modi is all set to become the next Prime Minister of India as his party is heading towards a majority on its own and form the next government.
