Earlier in the day, the prime minister held a productive meeting with Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez in Munich on the sidelines of the G7 Summit on Sunday and reviewed the full range of the bilateral ties. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues like trade and investment, defence cooperation, agriculture, climate action and food security.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks in Germany, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday said he should have acknowledged the tremendous achievements in India by 2014 and added that his government was only continuing the work of previous dispensations.
In a series of tweets, Chidambaram said on the day the prime minister claimed that electricity has reached all villages, there was news of steps being taken on a "war footing basis" to take electricity to a hamlet in NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu's native village.
"This is not the only hamlet or village that does not have electricity. There is no shame in admitting that electricity has yet to reach several remote areas and villages of India. There is no shame in admitting that several thousand households in India do not have electricity," the former Union minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Germany for the G7 summit has been marked by two special gestures by the state of Bavaria, where the annual meeting of the world's leading democratic economies is being held. Government sources noted that a Bavarian band welcomed PM Modi at the Munich airport, and said such a gesture by the state was last made for then US president Barack Obama in 2015.
"Minister-President of Bavaria is hosting a dinner for many world leaders including PM Modi on Sunday. But Modi has been in a way accorded the guest of honour status and he will be the only leader speaking on the occasion," a source said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the emergency imposed 47 years ago is a "black spot" on India's vibrant democracy as he praised the country's democratic values. Addressing the Indian diaspora during a massive event at the Audi Dome indoor arena here, he said that democracy is in the DNA of every Indian.
“Forty-seven years ago, an attempt was made to hold that democracy hostage and crush it. Emergency is a black spot on India's vibrant democracy,” Modi, who is visiting Germany to attend the G7 Summit, said, targeting the Congress Party.
“We Indians feel proud of our democracy wherever we live. Every Indian can say with pride that India is the mother of democracy,” Modi said. Emergency was announced in the country on June 25, 1975 when Indira Gandhi was the prime minister, and was lifted on March 21, 1977. (PTI)

The Group of Seven countries is set to announce a ban on Russian gold imports amid the war in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
Germany is hosting this year’s meeting of leaders from the Group of Seven leading economies in the Bavarian resort of Elmau. Before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia triggered a cascade of crises over food, energy and international security, the main focus of the meeting was meant to be on climate change.
