Part of Bhanupalli-Leh line work affected as Himachal yet to pay share, says Vaishnaw
The project is of strategic importance and proposed to be extended all the way to Ladakh, traversing through Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. He said the project was sanctioned on a cost-sharing basis with the Himachal government whose share of Rs 1,843 crore is outstanding.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Wednesday said that the 63-km Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri new line project is affected because the Himachal Pradesh government is yet to pay its share of Rs 1,843 crore.
The project is of strategic importance and proposed to be extended all the way to Ladakh, traversing through Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. He said the project was sanctioned on a cost-sharing basis with the Himachal government whose share of Rs 1,843 crore is outstanding.
“In this project, 82 hectare land, out of the total 124.02 hectares required in Himachal Pradesh, has been acquired. The work on available land has been taken up. So far, an expenditure of Rs 5,252 crore has been incurred on the project. Rs 1,843 crore is outstanding with the government of Himachal Pradesh. Failure to make this contribution is adversely affecting the project,” he said in a written reply in Lok Sabha Wednesday.
He said the project’s total cost is Rs 6,753 crore and the DPR of the extended line (489-km Bilaspur-Manali-Leh) has been prepared. “Anticipated cost of the project as per DPR is Rs 1,31,000 crore…” the minister said.
