Winter Session of Parliament Day 21, Last Day Live Updates: BJP MP from Rajasthan’s Pali P P Chaudhary was on Friday appointed the Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bills by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The JPC has 27 members from the Lok Sabha, and 12 from the Lok Sabha. The committee includes Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Sambit Patra, and Bansuri Swaraj among others.

On the final day of the Winter Session of Parliament, both Houses were adjourned sine die shortly after reconvening. The Houses were adjourned amid a faceoff between the Centre and Opposition MPs over the scuffle on Thursday amid protests by the BJP and Congress MPs over comments on B R Ambedkar. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha adopted a resolution referring the bills on simultaneous elections to a joint parliamentary committee amid uproar. Rajya Sabha BJP members Ghanshyam Tiwari, Bhubaneshwar Kalita, K Laxman and Kavita Patidar to be part of parliamentary panel on simultaneous polls.

A scuffle, an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and two BJP MPs injured — unprecedented scenes were witnessed yesterday after the Opposition began protests against Union Minister Amit Shah, who they claim insulted Dr B R Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha. As both protesting camps clashed on the Parliament premises, the BJP claimed that two of its MPs – Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput – were allegedly pushed by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and sustained injuries. Parliament Winter Session Day 21 Live: 2,200 cases of violence reported against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh till Dec 8, RS told

A total of 2,200 cases of violence against Hindus and other minorities were reported in Bangladesh till December 8, the government said on Friday, while adding that India expects Dhaka to take necessary measures for their safety, news agency PTI reported. The information was shared by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

The MoS said that the number of cases of violence against Hindus and other minorities in Pakistan this year stood at "112 till October 2024", as per the PTI report.

Speaking on the Parliament scuffle on Thursday which resulted in two BJP MPs being hospitalised, JMM MP Mahua Maji said that the government should make the CCTV footage of the incident public. " There are CCTVs all around the premises... The government should make the CCTV footage public. These CCTV footages will clearly show who pushed whom, but they will not do that," news agency PTI quoted Maji as saying. The BJP MPs who were hospitalised have claimed that they were pushed by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Responding to the claims, Maji said, " Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi will never do such a thing."

An FIR under sections 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS was registered at Parliament Street Police station.

In a decisive move aimed at maintaining decorum and ensuring the smooth functioning of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Thursday issued strict instructions that no political party, Member of Parliament (MP), or groups of MPs will be allowed to hold any dharna (protest) or demonstration at the gates of Parliament House.

The directive explicitly prohibits such gatherings at any of the building’s gates. The Speaker’s office stressed that the move is aimed at safeguarding the sanctity of Parliament and ensuring that its proceedings are not disrupted.

“No member, group of members, or political parties shall hold any dharna or demonstration at any of the gates of Parliament House,” sources told Indian Express.

Earlier in the day, a controversy erupted after a heated confrontation between opposition and NDA MPs in the Parliament premises, allegedly triggered by an insult to BR Ambedkar.

The BJP alleged that two of its MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Balasore in Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, were injured after being allegedly pushed by Opposition MPs as both sides protested over the B R Ambedkar issue.
