Parliament Winter Session Day 10 Highlights: Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after Opposition MPs protested during BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s statement in the House. Taking a dig on Congress, Dubey said: “Congress ka haath Soros ke saath.” Commotion had ensued in Rajya Sabha earlier as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar alleged that a wad of currency notes was recovered during anti-sabotage checks in the House yesterday. “Notes was recovered by the security officials from seat number 222 which is presently allotted to Abhishek Manu Singhvi.. investigation is on,” Dhankar said. Singhvi responded saying he only carries one Rs 500 note in Parliament.

What happened yesterday? On Thursday, after two days of uninterrupted business, the Parliament witnessed tense scenes after BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, accusing them of being part of a plan to “derail” India’s economy and “disrupt” its democracy. Senior BJP MP Nishikant Dubey raised the matter in the Lok Sabha, alleging that Congress were trying “to derail India’s success story”. In the Rajya Sabha, MP Sudhanshu Trivedi brought up the issue, citing the Pegasus row, the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines developed in India, and the Hindenburg report against the Gautam Adani. The Congress called the BJP’s allegations part of “a pattern to stop the party from raising crucial issues, particularly the charges against the Adani Group”.

Parliament Winter Session Day 10 Live Updates: Singhvi seeks probe into RS notes incident, says enclosures needed to prevent planting 'ganja'

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi on Friday termed the "recovery" of cash from his seat in the Rajya Sabha "bizarre" and demanded a probe into what he described as a "security lapse".

Singhvi said that glass enclosures should be made to prevent anyone from planting "ganja" on seats in an MP's absence.

Underscoring that indulging in politics on every issue "shows our system in bad light", the Congress MP said everything in the House should not lead to "cheap tactics", allegations and counter-allegations which "demeans our level".

The Congress leader said either barbed wire should be put around every seat or a glass enclosure be made to ensure that MPs locked their seat before going home to prevent anyone from planting "ganja" or currency notes there in their absence.

Soon after Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced that a wad of currency notes was recovered from Singhvi's seat on Thursday, the Congress MP said he only carries one Rs 500 currency note when inside Parliament.
