Over a year of tenure left, Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal resigns

Sehgal, a 1988-batch IAS officer, had served as Chairman and CEO of the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), leading the 302 km-long Agra-Lucknow Expressway project to completion in 22 months, according to his profile on the Prasar Bharati website. He was known to be one of the most trusted bureaucrats of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. He had also served as secretary to the Uttar Pradesh CM.

According to the Prasar Bharati website, Sehgal had over 35 years of experience in leading key departments and pushing policy reform in the Centre and state. “Throughout his distinguished career, he held various roles at the State and Central levels, contributing significantly to both the Central and State Government of Uttar Pradesh,” it says.

He had been appointed as Prasar Bharati Chairman after a selection committee headed by then-Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar picked him.

Announcing the decision, the Ministry had said: “The President, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee, is pleased to appoint Navneet Kumar Sehgal, IAS (retd) as the Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board with effect from the date of his assuming charge of the post for a term of three years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.”
