On state request, EC extends Kerala SIR by one week
According to the new schedule, electors in Kerala can now submit enumeration forms till Dec 18
As per the order, all registered electors have to submit new enumeration forms in the one-month enumeration phase to remain on the draft roll and certain categories of electors have to submit additional documents to prove eligibility. THE ELECTION Commission on Friday extended the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kerala by one week, on the request of the state government.
According to the new schedule, electors in Kerala can now submit enumeration forms till December 18, as opposed to the earlier deadline of December 11. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 23, after which claims and objections can be filed till January 22, 2026. The final electoral roll of the Kerala SIR would be published on February 21, 2026.
The EC had announced the SIR for nine states, including Kerala, and three Union Territories on October 27. As per the initial schedule, the enumeration phase was supposed to end on December 4, but the EC on November 30 extended the schedule by one week. The Kerala government had moved the Supreme Court seeking deferment of the SIR as local body elections were ongoing in the state. The court on Tuesday permitted the state to submit a request-cum-proposal to the EC explaining why the enumeration phase should be extended by one week.
