Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 4.30 pm in New Delhi, official sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said.
Patnaik had reached the national capital late Wednesday evening on a four-day visit. According to the official agenda, the Odisha chief minister will discuss issues related to the state’s interests.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Patnaik is likely to seek the Centre’s cooperation in sanctioning more houses for Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), expediting the implementation of some key railway and highway projects and in other areas.
Even as official sources ruled out any political significance to the meeting, it is taking place two days after Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, who is spearheading an effort to unite Opposition parties ahead of the 2024 polls, called on Patnaik in Bhubaneswar. Both Naveen and Nitish, however, denied that any political discussions took place during their hour-and-a-half meeting.
Patnaik had last met PM Modi on May 30, 2022, a month before the presidential polls in New Delhi and called it a courtesy visit. The same evening, he had also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
When asked whether Patnaik will meet any other Union ministers during the visit, an official source said no such meeting has been scheduled so far though it may take place. Patnaik is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar on May 13 morning.
