BJP is all set to be elected in Nagpur municipal corporation after having secured a considerable lead over Congress in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections. At 5:50 pm, the BJP had won 86 wards in the corporation. The Congress was way behind with wins in 23 wards.
Among other parties, BSP have managed to win 4 corporation seats in Nagpur whereas NCP have won in one ward.
Biggest upset from Nagpur comes in Congress city chief and former mayor Vikas Thakre’s defeat to Dilip Dive of BJP by 800 votes. Dive is brother of Sudhir Dive, MD of Purti group of companies pioneered by Nitin Gadkari.
A big win for the saffron party is instrumental in Nagpur, the backyard of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fountainhead of the party. Also, the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union minister Nitin Gadkari, both of whom campaigned heavily in the area, are from Nagpur.
Counting of votes for Nagpur municipal corporation elections began at 10 am on Thursday. Around 53 per cent polling was registered in the election to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Tuesday, state election commission officials said.
5:50 pm: BJP set for majority in Nagpur having secured 86 seats in the 151 ward corporation. Congress stand way behind managing to secure just 23 seats in the corporation.
4:35 pm: BJP currently winning in 42 corporation wards while leading in another 25. Congress trail way behind with wins in 14 wards and leads in 6. BSP have won 4 wards, whereas MNS lead in 2 wards and Shiv Sena in just one.
3:05 pm: BJP maintain lead in 33 wards while having secured wins in 15. Congress on the other hand trail way behind with leads in 10 NMC wards and victories in 4.
2:15 pm: Latest numbers from Nagpur show that BJP have secured 36 wards in the corporation with Congress trailing at 12. Nagpur Municipal Corporation officials have said that BJP would be declared elected soon.
1:20 pm: BJP has continued to maintain its big lead over the Congress. Although no wins have been announced as yet, the BJP is leading in 44 wards, followed by Congress in 14 wards. There are 151 wards at stake here.
12:45 pm: BJP keep pushing towards a big win with a commanding lead in 40 out of 50 wards.
11:50 am: BJP has established a clear lead in 24 wards, while Congress is the only competitor with leads in 9 wards. Remember, this is the RSS backyard and a big win is essential for the prestige of chief minister Fadnavis and union minister Nitin Gadkari. The campaign in Nagpur had seen rebellion from several RSS aspirants for tickets.
11:10 am: BJP steered ahead with a lead in 15 seats out of the total 16 counted so far.
