Delhi Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the murder of two women in south Delhi’s Munirka area. The arrested accused have been identified as Jeevan and Mini Sangma, while two others, Arjun and Govind, are absconding, police said. The two women were killed over a monetary dispute, police added.
“Arjun owed Rs 6 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh to Sonam and Nayesha (the victims), respectively. The women had deposited the money with him for safekeeping. But he spent it and when Sonam asked for it, he lied saying he was not able to withdraw it because of demonetisation,” a police officer said.

The officer said that to defuse the situation, Arjun married Sonam, which did not go down well with his live-in partner, Mini. Police added that Mini eventually drove Arjun, Jeevan and Govind to commit the murders.
Police said the victims were flatmates and had come to Delhi from Nepal with help from the three accused men, who also helped them get jobs at a spa.
Police said Sonam was decapitated on the night of November 16-17 and her body was dumped in a sewer in Munirka. Her body was found on November 25, with a leaf tattoo on her lower torso. The tattoo, along with a witness account, helped police ascertain her identity.
Nayesha was murdered 24 hours later, and her body was found on November 18, wrapped in a polythene bag outside a temple.
Police said Sonam’s body was found 500 metres from her residence. “When police searched Sonam’s rented accommodation, it was found that even Nayesha had been missing for 10 days. Nayesha’s body was found on November 18, just 100 metres from their rented accommodation,” said a senior police officer.
Police looked into Sonam’s call detail records and found that she was in touch with all three accused men. Three locations were raided and police discovered they had fled the city. Police said the mobile phones used by the trio were switched off.
“The rented accommodation used by the three men was searched and forensic experts found bloodstained clothes and a sofa-cum-bed. This place is located 50 metres from where Sonam’s body was discovered. It became clear that the murders were committed at the rented accommodation belonging to Jeevan, Govind and Arjun,” said Joint CP (southeastern range) R P Upadhyay.
Police arrested Jeevan on December 9 at Anand Vihar ISBT. “His arrest led us to Mini who, according to him, was the prime conspirator. He said that Sonam and Nayesha were demanding their money, and Arjun clandestinely married Sonam so she would back off,” said the JCP.
Police said Sonam was jealous of Arjun’s closeness to Mini, and informed her that they were married. This irked Mini, who convinced the three men to murder Sonam, police said.
Fearing a backlash from Nayesha, they decided to murder her as well, police said, adding that they then decided to head to south India to avoid getting caught.
