A tribute to History at Mazargues War Cemetery

In a solemn ceremony at the Mazargues War Cemetery, Modi and Macron honoured Indian soldiers who fought in the World Wars. Modi highlighted the city’s historical connection to India, recalling freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s dramatic escape attempt from British custody in 1910.

New Indian Consulate brings relief to diaspora

Modi and Macron jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille, a long-awaited move welcomed by the local Indian community. Previously reliant on the Paris embassy for essential services, expatriates expressed relief at the new facility, which will simplify administrative processes such as passport renewals and visas.

Marseille’s growing role in global trade

Beyond diplomacy, the visit also highlighted Marseille’s increasing importance as a trade gateway. Positioned strategically along the Mediterranean, the city plays a pivotal role in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a key initiative aimed at strengthening commercial ties between the two regions.

As Modi wraps up his visit to France, he now heads to the United States for further high-level discussions. With India and France celebrating 25 years of strategic partnership, the visit reaffirmed their commitment to deeper economic, diplomatic, and technological collaboration—setting the stage for a future of enhanced bilateral cooperation.
