In yet another incident of arson targeting an elected representative in Manipur, a private godown belonging to state Minister of Public Health Engineering and Consumer Affairs L Susindro Meitei was torched in Imphal on Friday night.
This attack took place the night before a scheduled all-party meeting in Delhi to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation in Manipur.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm on Friday in Khurai in Imphal East. A mob torched the private godown belonging to Susindro Meitei and security forces resorted to the use of tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Over the course of the past month, the residences of multiple elected representatives have been attacked by irate mobs in the Imphal valley. These include the residences of Union MoS for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, state cabinet minister Nemcha Kipgen, Manipur PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Uripok MLA Raghumani Singh, Sugnoo MLA K Ranjit Singh, and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi Devi.
Friday night’s incident took place even as incidents of shooting continue to be reported from areas at the border of the Meitei-dominated valley and Kuki-dominated hills such as Urangpat and Gwaltabi.
