Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko arrested on drug charges

His chats and digital payment details helped police to prima facie link the actor’s relation with drug peddlers.

Kochi city police Saturday arrested prominent Malayalam film actor Shine Tom Chacko on drug charges. This is the second drug case against Chacko, who was recently acquitted in a cocaine case of 2015.

Kochi city police said Chacko was arrested under sections 27 (consumption) and 29 (conspiracy for drug abuse) of NDPS Act. His chats and digital payment details helped police to prima facie link the actor’s relation with drug peddlers.

The action comes after Chacko allegedly escaped during a police raid at his hotel in Kochi Wednesday night. CCTV footage at the hotel showed Chacko running out of the hotel, where police had suspected the presence of a drug dealer. Later, police served notice to Chacko, who turned up before police Saturday leading to his arrest.

The issue got further attention after Malayalam actor Vincy Aloshious complained to Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) — a body of film actors — alleging that Chacko had “misbehaved” with her at a film location under the influence of drugs.

In a video Wednesday, Chacko had alleged that an artiste had misbehaved with her at the location of 2025 film Soothravakyam. However, she had not named the actor in the video. Later, Vincy moved a complaint against the internal complaint committee of the film, Kerala Film Chamber and AMMA, naming Shine.
