With no strong contender in fray to take charge of election campaign in Punjab, AAP has no option but to fall back on its national convener to lead the party in the state for the upcoming Assembly polls. In a state level rally organised at Majitha on Wednesday, two big banners installed on the stage projected only the picture of Kejriwal along with the slogan ‘Kejriwal Kejriwal Sara Punjab tere nal’ (All the Punjab is with you Kejriwal). This slogan designed around Kejriwal is already painted on walls across the state.

Arrangements for this rally were made in direct supervision of Durgesh Pathak, observer from Delhi. AAP’s state convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi Wraich and party MP from Sangrur and candidate from Jalalabad assembly constituency Bhagwant Mann were also present in the rally. Both had no presence on the campaign paraphernalia.

Interestingly, all the party flags are replica of those used in AAP’s Delhi assembly election campaign. The flags have image of Kejriwal along with supportive slogans in Punjabi. The only difference is that the slogans were written in Hindi for Delhi elections.

Apart from banners, posters and flags, big hoardings cut into close-up of Kejriwal’s face were installed on two buildings just opposite to the stage set for the rally. These hoarding were visible from a distance to attract the crowd.

It was decided in advance that Himmat Singh Shergill will be announced party candidate from Majithia assembly constituency in rally, but his picture was no where seen.

“All the campaign material is designed in Delhi. It is decided in advance that which banner will be installed on stage and where. Job of the local unit is to get the posters published according to design,” said a party leader.

According a source, candidates have been told to stick to the design of posters and banners sent by the party via e-mail for campaign purposes in their constituencies. Candidates are not allowed to use their creativity on party’s election campaign material.
