Seven young people from Nagpur, who had ventured out into a lake 30 kilometres from here, died when their boat capsized.
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon but came to light later in the night when the youths failed to return home. The bodies were fished out on Monday morning.
“Eight of them took the boat tied near the lake to enjoy a ride. There was no boatman on board. The boat apparently sank in the middle of the lake. The three youths, who stayed ashore saw the boat sinking. One of them jumped inside and managed to rescue one of the youths but seven others drowned,” Superintendent of Police Arti Singh told The Indian Express.
The deceased included two brothers, Chetan and Harshal Adamne. All youths belonged to city’s Ashirvad Nagar.
A few days ago, a similar incident at another lake near the city had claimed three lives when some youths had gone into a lake to celebrate the birthday of a friend.
