MLA Ambrish Sharma, who happened to be passing by, stepped out, confronted the men and pulled out a gun. Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Ambrish Sharma came out of his car with a rifle to rescue a young man, who had found himself surrounded by lathi-wielding masked men, in Bhind district’s Lahar when the MLA was passing through. A video of the incident went viral on Friday.
On Thursday, Yuvraj Singh Rajawat, a resident of Lahar, was driving to Bhind city with his family when a vehicle overtook him near Rawatpura Sani Mod and forced him to stop.
A group of masked men, armed with sticks and lathis, emerged from the vehicle and dragged him out of his car. They hurled abuses at him and were gearing up for a brawl when Lahar MLA Ambrish Sharma, who happened to be passing by, told his driver to pull over.
The MLA stepped out, confronted the men and pulled out a gun. The men then retreated to their car and fled.
Sharma told The Indian Express, “That was my rifle, I often travel with it. There is no law and order issue in my constituency. There used to be crime incidents since it shares a border with UP and now the crime situation has drastically improved.”
Sharma became Lahar MLA in 2023, beating the Congress’s seven-term legislator Govind Singh by a margin of 11,397 votes.
According to police, the masked men were going after Rajawat as he allegedly owed them money. Rajawat alleged that the group had made a bid to kidnap him in January 2025, too.
