AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Monday slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for not recalling Union IT and Telecom Minister A Raja over his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, saying the “buck stops at the doorstep” of the DMK chief.
“The recent observations by the Supreme Court Bench questioning the continuance of Raja as the Union Minister of Telecommunications are damning to say the least,” Jayalalithaa said in a strongly-worded statement here.
She said there had been other instances too, such as when the Comptroller and Auditor General of India found Raja’s approval and signatures in almost all key decisions relating to the 2G Spectrum licence allotment sans “transparent procedures,” where he should have resigned.
“That Raja continues to cling to his seat even after this (SC observations) clearly shows that he is a person completely devoid of morals. He has come out as a person without probity in public life, who has no right to be holding a position of responsibility,” she said.
But neither had he resigned nor been recalled by Karunanidhi,Jayalalithaa said, adding,”So,ultimately, the buck stops at the doorsteps of Karunanidhi.”
Jayalalithaa said despite the “overwhelming” evidence of Raja’s complicity in the Spectrum scam that has caused great loss to the nation, and being indicted by practically every Constitutional forum from the CAG to the Supreme Court,Karunanidhi has not recalled Raja.
“It is a national shame; nothing less,” she said.
The Supreme Court had last week slammed CBI for its “slipshod” investigations into the spectrum scam,in which the alleged role of Raja has come under the scanner, saying “the same minister is still continuing today”.
