Vilasrao Deshmukh in critical condition; awaits liver transplant

Hospital authorities were tight-lipped over the condition of the Minister.

Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was today rushed to a private hospital here after he was brought by a special flight,sources said.

The 67-year-old senior Congress leader from Maharashtra who is ailing for sometime was brought by the special flight around 6 pm and immediately taken to the hospital in an ambulance,they said.

According to reports,he is suffering from liver and kidney failure and chances of recovery are seen as slim.

Due to his critical condition,he has been put on a life-support system.

“His condition is critical. He is in the ICU. Doctors are attending on him,” said an official in the Global Hospital at suburban Perumbakkam,where he was admitted after being brought to the city in an air ambulance yesterday.

The 67-year-old two-time Maharashtra Chief Minister is under the care of noted liver transplant surgeon Dr Mohamed Rela at the hospital.

He was admitted to the hospital for a possible liver transplant.

Deshmukh was rushed here after brief treatment at a hospital in Mumbai.
