Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan on Thursday forwarded to the Home Department the allegations levelled against his son VA Arun Kumar by the Congress-led UDF Opposition.
According to sources in the Chief Minister’s office, the Home Department was expected to refer the matter to the Lok Ayukta for further action.
The Lok Ayukta could examine the complaints and if it was found that an investigation was warranted, the anti-corruption body could order a probe, sources said.
State Opposition leader Oommen Chandy last week submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister levelling 11 charges against Arun Kumar, who holds a key position in the stat-run Institute of Human Resources Development in Engineering (IHRDE).
The Opposition charges against Kumar included that he had allegedly tried to sabotage CBI probe into the operations of other-state lotteries, taken bribe from sandalwood factory owners and got enrolled for PHd allegedly with bogus experience certificate.
The Opposition also wanted an inquiry into foreign trips made by Kumar in his official capacity without getting proper permission from the authorities concerned.
Achuthanandan opted for the probe by the Lok Ayukta as a Vigilance enquiry was likely to invite more complaints, sources said.
