TN merchants demonstrate against Obama’s remarks on FDI

They were protesting against the recent remarks of Obama on American firms' role in Indian retail market.

Over 400 members of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Merchants’ Associations were today detained for protesting with black flags in front of the US Consulate General here,police said.

They were protesting against the recent remarks of US President Barack Obama on American firms’ participation in the Indian retail business,state president of the Federation A M Vikramaraja said.

Traffic in the area was affected for few minutes.

In a recent interview,he had noted that India prohibited foreign direct investment in too many sectors including retail.

He also expressed concerns over deteriorating investment climate to endorse another “wave” of economic reforms.
